Air, water and the sun's energy give use life. But they can also kill and they are most dangerous of all in the form of hurricanes. Wind speeds in hurricanes are much lower than wind speeds in tornadoes. However, hurricanes cause much more damage because they cover a much larger area. The US Forecast Centre can give accurate hurricane warnings. This is because it collects much information in many ways. As a result of warnings, very few people died in Hurricane Andrew. By contrast, the 1970 hurricane in East Pakistan was the world's worst killer. This is mainly because people couldn't escape. As a result a million people died.
